Ella Update

After a night of fever, Ella somehow instantly healed at around 9AM this morning. It was weird. Fever was her only symptom and now she's fine.

Ella's First Day

Ella is going to start going to day care. She'll be going three times a week so that Kris can spend some time at the library. It's not at a center, it's just a lady's house, but there are other kids her age to play with and its near my school.

Her first day went pretty well other than the fact that she didn't want to eat or drink anything. There was a little crying involved when she wouldn't take her jacket off, but she got over it very quickly.

Day two went better. She ate breakfast, but no lunch. She cried a little when Kris dropped her off, but saw that Max and Ruby was on and decided that TV was more interesting. When we picked her up, she was still sleeping so we had to wake her to take her home. She stayed lethargic for the rest of the day and later got a fever, so day #3 of day care is a sick day.

Tuttle Orchards

We just got back from Tuttle Orchards and had a great time. Upon arrival, we were given a little red wagon and a basket and shown which apples were on which rows. We started on a Red Delicious row, picked a ton, and then headed over to a Golden Delicious/Cortland row. Once we had paid for out apples (we picked WAAAAY too many!) we headed over to the kids area. Ella only wanted to swing and did that for about 2 hours. Jacob tried everything- the maize maze, jumping and climbing on hay bales, and hiding in the corn house. Ella did take a break to look at the llama (which she thought was a kangaroo), but went right back to the swing when she was finshed. She kept telling Kris, "Higher! Higher! I wanna go into the clouds!" Jacob made a new friend and the two ran around doing everything together. We headed across the street where they were selling hot dogs and had some lunch. Ella was getting really sleepy and ate while leaning her head on my shoulder. Once back in the car, Ella fell asleep quickly. Jacob quizzed us on apple recipes and decided that we should make an apple pudding. I'm not sure such a thing exists, but to cover all my bases, I'll look for that tonight.

Jacob's Irish Dance Class

On Wednesday, I took Jacob to an open house at the Richens/Timm Irish Dance Studio. There were about 20 kids there ranging from 3-9. The kids learned some steps for a jig, some skipping, and how to hold their hands. We can go two more times for a free trial period, but they prefer kids to start at age 5 or 6, so they might tell us that Jake needs to wait another year. He really enjoys the dancing and has been practicing at home.

Schools of All Sorts

This is Jacob's school:

This is one of two random old family cemeteries that I pass when I go pick Jacob up. They were apparently family plots back when this was all farm land.

This is my school. In front, there are two faux ponds. I think they look like a moat.

Indiana is made of corn, soy beans, and vinyl siding. Pretty much all the houses in Lawrence are all the same house, complete with beige siding and faux ponds. The ponds are weird. Some of them have weird fountains that look like broken water pipes. Not on purpose, I think. There are a lot of Canada geese here and the kids have liked seeing them fly in a V. There are tons of trees and little streams everywhere. Jacob has a stream by his school and they go on hikes across a bridge.
