Both kids suprised (and impressed) me today
Ella drew a face, with a mouth, eyes and ears, which I had no idea she could do. So that was cool. "It's Jacob!" she said.
Jacob then ran over--and began telling her everything that was wrong with the drawing.
I asked Jacob, "What if you made a picture of Superman, and I started telling you everything that was wrong with it? Would you like that or not like that?"
Jacob thought for a long time here, and eventually said "I'd like it!"
"Why?"
"Because I would want to draw it all right the next time."
Well.... okay then. I guess he got me!
We had further discussion about the idea of constructive criticism but that was the point that really struck me.

Birthday Plans
Jacob will get to celebrate twice on his birthday! We're not allowed to bring cupcakes to school, but we are allowed to bring cake mix and ingredients and the kids get to make their own cupcakes, so Jake and his friends will be making chocolate cupcakes with sprinkes in class. Later, Jacob has dance class so I'll make another batch of cupcakes to share there.
Ella will have cupcakes on her birthday, too. She has requested strawberry because it's pink, of course. Kris is going to take them to daycare and have a little party for her there.
Friday the 19th we're going to have a party with Grandad and will have our party favorites: pizza, fruit, and cake. I'm making a red velvet cake and we'll have balloons and presents.
The kids wake up every morning asking if it's birthday time yet. Jacob is very excited to be five as long as there are no shots. Ella is not excited to be three, she wants to be five too.

First Love
Jacob is in love.
Unfortunately, the object of his affection is his dance teacher, Miss Liz. When asked what kind of cupcakes he wanted to take to class for his birthday he answered, "What kind do you think Miss Liz would like?" This morning he asked if he could go to Miss Liz's house some time. He always asks to bring something (a book, his backpack, his monkey) to class so he can show Miss Liz his stuff.
Quite the little romantic...!

Ella's First Pigtails
Ella's been letting me do her hair this week so I decided to be ambitious and try pigtails. She loved them!

Is it My Birthday yet?
"Jacob, what do you want for your birthday?"
All the jerseys for all the sports so I could play for the Colts.
"Honey, the Colts are just football. Other teams have different names."
There's no Colts hockey team?
"No, but there's one called the Red Wings."
Is their jersey red with wings on it?
"Yes."
Okay, then I will play for them too.
