On day #3 we spent the morning over at Hope's house holding small things: first, baby Fiona, then the soon-to-be-given-away guinea pigs. The kids played with Legos and cars until it was time for lunch.
Just like in the "old days," we walked to In N Out.
Hope was on-call that night so we said our goodbyes and went to the beach. Neither Jake nor Ella could remember ever going to the beach so it was nice to see them rediscover everything. It was probably only 65-70 degrees but the kids insisted on wearing their swimsuits. Jacob had fun playing tag with the waves and Ella, ever the little mermaid, kept trying to get deeper and deeper in the water. I should have put on my swim suit, too, because I got my jeans soaked chasing after her! We saw two dolphins who stayed by the shore the entire time we were there. That was a first for all of us! Later we met up with the Bullios and watched the kids play in the water. We took a walk to the tide pools, but Jacob was starting to feel cold, so he and Kris stayed back. Ella was interested in everything but had no desire to touch the sea anemones. She and Kate found (and put back) many, many shells along the way. Around dinner time, the Bullios headed home and we headed to our old haunt, BJ's pizza, across from the beach.
